No drums at our door to wake us up this morning like out in the bush, so we slept in. Yay! We wandered down to the hotel restaurant for an open-air breakfast overlooking the waterhole in back of the hotel. I didn't finish my scrambled eggs, but they didn't go to waste. As soon as I pushed my plate aside, a mama vervet monkey with a newborn hanging from her neck appeared on the railing beside our corner table and scooped them up. Soon, two adolescents saw the opportunity and joined her, daring to step over on our table for whatever scraps they could find. Then dad showed up and the rest of the family backed off while he finished off what leftovers there were. Jan was snapping pictures and trying to finish her meal when a third adolescent appeared, a boy of course, and was threatening to jump on her back and reach for her food since he was afraid to go around dad who was occupying the corner of the railing. Jan started shouting at him to go away but he was insistent until, finally, a hotel employee came and shooed them away... while I was laughing and snapping pics!
Later in the morning, we went on a helicopter ride over the falls. I got the co-pilot seat this time which afforded an incredible view. It's a short ride, only about 15 minutes, so we decided to not spend it snapping pics and, instead, purchased the vid and pics the helicopter company made of our trip. What a view, what a sight!
We then lazed around the rest of the day before going on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi river, the river that feeds the falls. We watched an elephant swim across the river with a bird hitch hiking on it's back for the journey, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the river.
In the evening, we joined the rest of our tour group for dinner at a local 'Bama,' a restaurant, that featured a buffet of local cuisine, and some cultural singing and dancing, and drum playing. Everybody is given a chitenge to wear for the evening, a colorful cloth garment tied loosely around the shoulder. It was an audience participation kind of thing and we had a good time learning to drum... well, we made some noise anyway.
The warthog I had the night before seems tame to the food I ate this evening --- impala terrine, crocodile tail, smoked guinea fowl, ostrich kebab, and kudu (antelope) steak, with some guinea fowl stew, peanut rice, and pepper sauce. And the pièce de résistance, Jan and I both tried a mopani worm... and received a certificate documenting it. Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jan gets a tat at dinner...
And eats a mopani worm...
Michael too... yuck...
We didn't play the drums much better than we sang Take Me Out To The Ballgame, but we had fun...
A fine day in Zimbabwe...
